Metal Roofing
Standing seam metal roof on outbuilding in Chardon, Ohio.
Follensbee terne-coat steel
Titanium UDL synthetic underlayment was installed after removing the existing rolled roofing material. Standing seam metal panels and drip edging were fabricated in the shop. Cleats, fastened with galvanized roofing nails, hold the roof panels in place and allow for expansion and contraction of the metal. The excess cleat metal is bent over the nail heads to prevent contact with the moving roof panels.
A terne metal ridge cap is fabricated to match the existing house, and installed with stainless steel screws fastened to the standing seam ribs. The metal is then painted with a red iron oxide-linseed oil paint, brushed in by hand.
